You Were Born Free – No One Owns You: No Human Being Has Any Inherent Authority Over Any Other Human Being

There is no reason why any human being has inherent authority over any other, meaning no human is born superior to another, in knowledge or in value. No human is born inferior to another, no matter how little a person may know. After all, we were all born ignorant, innocent, limited in awareness. No one asks an infant to teach them; we were all infants once.

Though authority is necessary for leaders when it is merited based on their character, abilities, and the requirements of the task or organization, this authority is never intrinsic to the person themselves. It is only a concession, a thing we do because there is no better alternative. If it were possible that each person could rule themselves and do so in a way that allowed each one a good life without hurting or interfering negatively with anyone else, then we would do so, and authority itself would be unethical and immoral.

But that’s not the case; unfortunately, we need some rules to govern ourselves by lest we hurt each other on purpose or by accident. And we, therefore, need some authority to enforce these rules.

It must always be remembered, however, that the authority is in the position, the role being fulfilled, not in the person fulfilling it. There is nothing unique, in terms of value, about the person in authority. He is one of us. She has the same worth and natural authority as the infant who can’t speak and the beggar who has no money for food. He is not above any of us. Nor is he himself special in terms of unique value or the right to rule or lead.

There is no Divine right except the Divine right to be free. So when one person doesn’t fulfill the role for the good of the rest of us, we replace them with someone else. They have no right to long periods of rule without challenge or change. They have no right to family inheritance of leadership over a nation. This is pure evil. The rule of some ignorant individuals over the fearful mass. They wear suits and give themselves fancy titles, forgetting they once puked over their mother’s dresses and did not have enough intelligence or power to speak full words. This is true tyranny. They tyrannize their brothers and sisters in humanity, and moreover, they tyrannize themselves. We are all kings and queens over ourselves – our kingdom extending over our bodies and minds
