Rewards of the sun god. Christ (the sun god) as a model for the heroic individual

The sun god leads the sheep to bright pastures. Conquering death and the darkness. It’s a model for what happens when we choose to be good despite our tragedies.

This is a very old story. Far older than Christianity, though the Christian writers wisely incorporated it into their story.

I have traced it as far back as ancient Babylon. Where Baal (the son of El) was the god that conquered the darkness after a period of dying and then coming back to life.

This story is also likely older than verbal language, in that it is the story of nature and agriculture. The world ‘dies’ in winter, and the sun gets very ‘weak’ during this time of year.

Then eventually it gets strong again during spring, and light returns. The sun (sun god) conquers the darkness and brings back heat, light and life.

With the breaking of spring (easter) crops are guaranteed to grow, and summer will return. Meaning our ancestors would have food to eat and not die out.

So its a very old story written into nature, and which is also true in terms of ethics.

When we make the decision to deal with the winters of our lives with integrity, with virtue, with not becoming dark ourselves. When we decide that no matter what happens to us, no matter how tempted we are (like satan in the desert) to turn evil and become hateful agents of the dark, we will instead stay good. Then we become like sun gods.

We become like children of the great father, and we are the ones who bring about the spring and summer of our own lives. We become great sunshine for ourselves, and for everyone around us. People love us. And we become a force for good.

And moreover, we gain eternal life, in that we do things that stay here long after we are gone. And eventually, when it is time to meet the boatman, and take our journey beyond — we join the great infinity with joy in our hearts and without fear.

This is the reward of the good.
